With a local talker taking credit for the withdrawal, an invitation extended to violent terrorist / Obama associate William Ayers has abruptly been cancelled.
Ayers was scheduled to address Boston College on Monday, but two student associations were apparently notified by campus officials that it could not proceed as scheduled, according to today’s Boston Herald:
Dunn, director of public affairs, indicated he was unaware that Ayers had been invited to BC when first contacted by the Herald yesterday. Student organizers who had confirmed the speaking engagement in the afternoon called back shortly afterward to report it was canceled.
Ayers was a founding member of the violent radical-left anti-war group the Weather Underground, which was blamed for a series of bombings that killed several people. Ayers, though a fugitive for several years, was not directly implicated in those attacks. Federal riot and bombing conspiracy charges against him where later dropped, The New York Times [NYT] has reported.
Ayers figured in the 2008 presidential campaign as conservatives criticized Barack Obama for his association with the former radical.
Ayers, a professor of education at the University of Illinois, Chicago, was due to speak at Boston College on education reform and civic engagement at the invitation of Americans for Informed Democracy and the College Democrats. Ayers could not be reached last night, but before the decision was announced, he said: “This isn’t Saudi Arabia or Cuba. Speech is something we believe in in a democracy.”
Funny how the college is pretending it was unaware of the event, given the number of emails I’ve personally received in past days. At the very least, wouldn’t they have had discussions regarding security?

In person, Ayers gives off a creepy vibe, even more so than the fringe activists I’ve encountered on the West Coast. In the clip, he abruptly changes his story, but it seems not to trouble him in the least. Why Obama would want to be associated with this sick man is difficult to understand.
In fact, I found the confrontation downright eerie, as his mannerisms and behavior are strikingly similar (if not nearly identical) to that of murdered liberal talk show host Mike Webb, a former co-worker in Seattle.
Here at home, WTKK host Michael Graham is claiming credit for the BC cancellation. From his blog:
At 9:00 Monday morning, nobody in Boston knew Bill Ayers was coming to BC–certainly not the Schroeder family of Brighton. By 9pm last night, the listeners of 96.9 WTKK had single-handedly stopped this unapologetic advocate of violence and stupidity from disgracing the reputation of Boston College.
Claims that BC didn’t know he was coming are dubious at best (see below). Either way, William Ayers has been turned back. His decisions to start a terrorist group that would go onto to kill four people, detonate a dozen bombs against American targets and try (and, thank God, fail) to blow up soldiers at Ft. Dix–these decisions have had consequences, despite the fact that Barack Obama thinks Ayers is a great guy.
Ayers says he doesn’t regret what he did. Fine. But now he knows the people of Boston haven’t forgotten, either.
UPDATE! From the “No News Is Good News To the Boston Globe-Democrat” File: I just did a site search of the Boston Globe’s website, and I couldn’t find a single mention of the Ayers story anywhere. Hey, I guess no BC grads bother to read the Globe-Democrat. Yeah, who wants Catholic readers in Boston? Way to go, guys!

Sorry. Graham gets no such pass from me. Graham’s problem w/Ayres stems from his founding a radical group from 40? years ago? The members who were guilty of the killings associated with the Weather Underground have all been tried, convicted and served time for their crimes. Ayres was NOT one of them. It’s a sad day when colleges and universities succumb to pressure instigated by nitwit radio talkers.
Free speech? Ayres’ doesn’t deserve this freedom nor do the students and faculty denied the freedom to attend? The same freedom of speech allowed Graham to make: a. hateful comments on Islam (costing him one job), 2. EXTREME comments hours after the Columbine massacre, “They were targeting minorities and athletes – which, the athletes part, (is) one minor benefit to this otherwise horrible story,” (cost him another job) and c. joking on national TV about how he’d enjoy seeing Hillary and Bill Clinton being killed “Soprano” style in response to campaign spoof? That freedom of speech?
But I’m getting away from my real point. The reason I can not stand Graham is not because of his idiotic ranting and ravings. The reason I can’t stand him is because I am totally convinced none of what he raves about he cares about. It’s all an act. As I’ve stated in the past, I can’t stand McFlea either, but will at a minimum credit her with being genuine and sincere. Not so Graham.
What pirate conveniently leaves out of his little dismissal is how Ayers went underground because while he was building a nail bomb designed to kill American servicemen and their families at a dance, it went off prematurely killing some of his fellow monsters, but unfortunately not the esteemed professor. It was only because of a botched handling of the case against these pieces of garbage by the feds that they were able to resurface. I hope he gets hit by a bus.

Softy, Sometimes my emotion takes over my brain. Listening to a portion of Graham’s show the morning of the BC thing, was his tirade on free speech.
ADot, Yeah, there is one Yale alumni who will be waaaaay too busy for any public speaking, unless, of course, his writing skills mirror his reading skills. “My Twelve Toughest Decisions” or as Jay Leno calls it, “Zero and Twelve”. Let’s hope Cheney doesn’t get his grimy paws on it to “proof read”. I can not help but wonder what in the hell he’s gonna write? What will he have to say upon reflection, and no longer in office?
And Sorenson, Acknowledging Graham with Namaste? Please! That is pure sacrilege. Besides, I’m sure Graham hasn’t a clue as to the meaning.

Off topic,,,,,would someone in the biz PLEASE answer this question……….why is there always so much dead air on RKO,,,,dead air during Ingraham, Limbaugh, Savage, Doyle, C2C and last nite during Bill Cunningham and it happens during Howie’s show as well….I don’t understand why this happens and it happens often and for extended periods of time especially at nite. Is there an issue with the feed, are they censoring?

Good God. Look at the publicity Graham Crackers is getting? I’ll tell you, it’s scary. To think that he generated this much publicity in the event that within 24 hours BC cancelled the appearance really blows my mind.
I know I am in the minority here, and let me qualify by stating I am not some radical Ayers supporter, but it is a sad day in this country when colleges and universities ban controversial speakers. And then to lie and/or cover-up their part in this whole thing, for what? To pacify their donors?
I was truly amazed today listening to J & M when they stated something like over 90% of their email was supportive of this decision. What a sad state of affairs.

I disagree. Generational communication is not the reason for newspaper’s failing. A combination of advertising costs, the lack of innovation and/or arrogance behind decision making and the same thing that has brought down every other industry recently: greed- blame those factors on the failure.
Pirate, none of that matters if no one reads newspapers any longer right? I agree with the innovation factor…but honestly, I have a bunch of college kids I work with. They prefer to text….occasionally cell phone…none of them get’s out there in person and starts a riot. They do it on the internet if at all…and often it is under an assumed name.
I know when I have an outrage I call the papers or they have called me because I post my real name when commenting on-line to some of their stories.
Overall face to face communication has lost so much it depresses me.

I like to mix pieces of vintage anything into my wardrobe, home, collecting and I love finding really special gifts. Years ago when Ebay first started I won a first edition of Sylvia Plath’s “Bell Jar”. However, it was not published under her name, her publisher suggested she used a pseudonym, Victoria Lucas. I bought this intended to gift it as a gift. Then I couldn’t part with it! It’s very rare. And if you own an old home, and need some kind of something old and original, Ebay’s the place.
Anyway one can buy 50 pieces (that’s not a lot) of Cape Cod sea glass for $ 80.00 on Ebay. I may start bagging it up when I get home!

One final Ebay story….a friend of mine bought a bunch of crap at a “penny sale” in Hull. One of the items purchased for 1 cent was a little brass Scottish terrier – maybe 2 X 1 in. It was engraved with Provincetown on front and a date (1940′ish) on back. She thought it was cute and listed it for .99 cents on Ebay. Well, she had hundreds of bids and sold it for at least a couple hundred dollars. Apparently it was made in P-town and the date on the back was the last year the foundry was operating. You know how some of these P-town guys are, and if they happened to have a terrier? Sky’s the limit when it comes to $$. What a freak thing, and for a penny!

OK, let me tell you something about pirates and money. Their good fortunes at times have gone way up, in addition to going way down. When they’re up, they enjoy living lavishly and delight in spending it. And not just on themselves. No, they love spending it on the ones they care about and their generosity is matched only be the happiness they feel sharing it. But the thing about pirates, they never save for a rainy day, and tend to be trusting. They don’t think about money until they have none. And, you know the story, one day the wake up with none.
Poor pirate!! Money’s kaput!! But no, you’re wrong. Pirates are able to adapt very easily. They cut out what they can no longer afford. And they’re fine. Because up or down they’re happy, and don’t allow money to play too much of part in their happiness.
And let me tell you, this seemingly simple life lesson can not be underestimated in an economy like we’re facing today. Pirates are very resilient and do whatever’s necessary to make ends meet.
Oh and there’s one more thing that pirates have come to know in a way that non-pirates will never fully appreciate: a long, hot, steamy shower
