Imus Has Cancer

From WABC-TV:

NEW YORK (WABC) — Don Imus announced on his radio show this morning that he has stage II prostate cancer.

The 68-year-old Imus made the surprise announcement on his radio show at around 7:30 a.m.

He told his listeners he has full faith “his doctors will beat it.”

He did not say when he was starting treatment.

“The day you find out is fine,” he said. “But the next morning when you get up, your knees are shaking. I didn’t think I could make it to work.”

Wearing black sunglasses and slumped behind his microphone, Imus speculated that the cancer may have come from stress.

  1. Very sad when anyone is diagnosed. Although I am not a fan, I am saddened to hear it.

I wonder how his “trophy” wife is coping with the news?

But caused from stress?! I-man never seemed very bright to me…

  2. Can we say Karma… What goes around comes around! Not that anyone deserves this, but it is only fitting for Don “No Nuts” Imus.

  3. Am absolutely positve that Don Imus swollen sphincter has a much bigger value as a national headline than either of the wars bankrupting our dignity and treasury . . .or economic collapse, right?

We all know Murk-istanicals are much happier knowing that some obnoxious red neck’s ability to have the finest medical care money can buy is by far much more important news instead of anything that might not make them appear “superior” to all others.

  4. That is sad about Silver, although I did not like it when he left the Progs to join the VRWC…

remember that flik he did with Jamie Lee Curtis about a fem cop — Blue Steel, I think? He was downright creepy good in that. A far cry from his Rhoda days, fer shure.

  5. sad, sad, sad….regardless of likeability and/or politics, one can not help but feel saddened by both of these stories.

I loved the quirkiness of hearing yet never, ever seeing Silver when he was on Rhoda. That show was the first I remember using that “never seen voice” so effectively that Silver was as much a star on the series as the rest of the actors. Brilliant.

And Imus. I’m not surprised. I’ve suspected he was sick with something (more than pneumonia) all winter. His body apparently was run down because of the cancer, and that’s the reason he stayed sick with the respiratory problem for so long.

Anyway, that’s neither here nor there. I feel very sad for his wife and kid. And I feel bad for Imus as well. He seemed to be doing so much to stay healthy-organic vegetarian diet, treadmill every day…..that’s not easy. I need to read more because I don’t know why this was not detected sooner.

  6. Piratetoby, I think Lorenzo Music did the Carlton Your Doorman voice. Ron Silver was the hip (in his mind) neighbor Gary. Wiki it…

Sad story, in any event. Death is all around us! And the cancer is particularly frightening, because you can do everything “right” and participate in no risky behavior yet… ZAP!

  7. Softy,

Yes, of course you’re right (Silver). Appears this nasty head cold I have is affecting my brain.

And Imus….I agree with doing all the “right” things, including yearly screening. My question is, if Imus was regularly screened (as he should have been), wouldn’t the cancer be detected before it reached Stage II?
