Barnicle Rides Russert Credibility Train

Over the next few months, it might be fun to keep a tally of how many times Civic Disgrace Mike Barnicle talks up his friendship with the late Tim Russert.

Just days after Russert’s passing, Barnicle has shown he isn’t shy about using his relationship with the Meet The Press moderator in an attempt to gain much-needed credibility.

  1. Barnicle and Russert were more than close friends. Barnicle named one of his sons after Russert and Russert was Tim Barncle’s God Father.

Barnicle has had a successful radio show and was offered a morning show on TKK. He has a regular TV job on MSNBC and can write a column anytime he likes in The New York Daily News and The Boston Herald.

You write a blog based on rumors, tips from receptionists at radio stations and wild uninformed speculation. You suffer from idol worship of a disgraced drug abuser who fills the airwaves with nothing more than propaganda and who question someones motive when speaking about a recently departed close friend?

You are truly a bottom feeder. And each day you wonder why you don’t have a radio program.

  2. Mike Barnicle is a bare-knuckles journalist of the first order. Print, tv, radio, he is the true King of All Media (not Howard). He has credibility in spades, a couple of meaningless fibs in his columns notwithstanding. Get over it, Brian. I am starting a Friends of Mike club. Membership equals one right now. Who is with me? We can meet here in the South End at a little cafe I know where we can drink Cosmos and tell our favorite Mike Barnicle stories. You guys are obsessed with Mike just the way Howie tells you to be. Lemmings!

  3. Not likely Brian those were original thoughts…

Although – I do believe Big B was very close to Russert. That is just another testimony of the type of quality guy Tim was, not abandoning a friend when surely many did. I will miss Tim and since I never listen to B I will not have to endure any pain from him…

  4. Both the timing and content of your comments with respect to Mike Barnicle show an utter lack of professionalism and level of hypocrisy that will challenge even the hardiest of scumbags to top.

Your obsession with finding fault in anyone that you deem to lack the integrity that you so clearly believe you have is boring on a good day, but disgusting at times like this.

Who are you to opine on the depth of friendship that Tim Russert and Mike Barnicle had or did not have? By the tone of your comments, you obviously know for a fact how close they really were, right? And please, share with us how long a person should wait and the frequency with which they should talk about the sudden passing of a friend so as not to offend you.

I can only hope that someone treats you in the same despicable manner that you have treated so many others so you can finally see the pointless, self-serving nature of your “work”.

  5. I am glad to see other posters were able to express my feelings better than I could.

BTW, Brian, How much does Rushbo pay you to pump out your dribble everyday and when you 2 get together does he like you to dress up like a woman or does he like to play that role?

  6. On the rare occasion i’m forced to listen to Barnicle I never walk away encouraged to listen to him again. He chooses mainstream topics that any good college grad could handle fresh out of Journalism school and makes up for his shortcomings by using his strange (yet condescending) tone of voice.

Add to all that a significant quantity of liberalism and you create Barnicle.

It’s not surprising that Barnicle would brag about a relationship he had with Russert. I do not recall Russert bragging about his relationship with Barnicle.

All forms of liberalism (even in its weakest form) sells big in new england – it’s not surprising that Barnicle has an audience… plenty of mushrooms came out of the compost to praise him on this thread.

  7. Jay-B,

I could not have said it better. A generation ago, one transgression from complete honesty in journalism was a ticket to seven eleven training school. You were thrown out and nobody would hire you to write again. He disgraced his profession and sold his honor for a couple of crappy stories.

    Oh, Anti Brian,

I don’t know much about Barbara’s mother, but except for your brothers and sisters, I do know that your mother didn’t have any kids that lived.

  8. Not here to defend Barnicle and his plagiarism but he was likely asked to participate in all of the TR tributes as he really was a close friend of the man. But while we’re on the plagiarism topic, isn’t a tad hypocritical of Howie Carr to paint Barnicle’s kettle black when he has his listeners write his column?

  9. THE DIFFERENCE IS HOWIE DOESN’T LIE ABOUT IT! Howie thanks those that contribute to his articles not take credit for it as his own.
    HUGE DIFFERRENCE!

I think BArnicle should talk about TR to anyone who’ll listen. It won’t be long before he takes credit for teaching him everything he knew.

  10. Vernon – it all smacks of laziness no matter how you try to gild the lily. And stop SCREAMING at me. I am entitled to my viewpoint as you are yours.

  11. Lisa,

I worked with Howie and I think you are correct, having listeners write his dreadful colums is not only lazy, it is dumb. Call it what you like, but it doesn’t even come close to the mortal sin of plagiarism.

  12. Barnicle makes my skin crawl…sorry he just does…I especially hate it when he grovels at the feet of the Kennedys…like they are royalty and he is part of the royal family. Makes one want to puke!

  13. Pat Lucci, When did you ever work with Howie
Carr? You had a short lived weekend show on RKO. Your small paycheck may have come from the same company but you never worked with Howie Carr.

and in future posts please spare us your “All News” WEEI credentials because you worked there when it was owned by a far right wing pizza maker who thought members of the John Birch Society were liberals. The news product on Am 590 at that time was a joke of you were the chief fool

For a guy who hasn’t worked in the business in years and is considered a local nut job bt anyone who follows North Shore politics who have a very high opinion of yourself.

  14. Actually, Howie and I covered a number of stories together as we worked at different outlets. People can work together without drawing a paycheck from the same place. In fact, we spent an entire weekend together at the 1990 State Democrat Convention. To correect your dumb ass, I was hired by WEEI when it was owned by CBS and I was there through the transition to Helen Broadcasting. The fact that our new owner may have been conservative never effected the news product. That said, your comment shows where your sorry butt ias comming from.

As far as my opinion of myself is concerned, it is high given my accomplishments in journalism and business. Your opinion of you self on the other hand isn’t even high enough to use your own name. That said, if my writing skills and recollections of facts were as pathetic as yours, I would hide my identity as well. When you get out of your basement apartment in Mommy’s house, come see me if you are man or woman enough to do so.

  15. Mr. Lucci,

Wow! You covered the 1990 Democratic Convention in Springfield. Boy, you got the choice assignments. What exactly did you do with Howie that weekend that makes you comfortable in commenting with such authority on his work habits almost 20 years later?

I spent many years as a street reporter before moving into management. I covered the same stories as people like John Henning, Darrell Gould, Jack Harper and Andy Hiller.
It would be a little disingenuous for me to say I worked with John Henning. But, then again, I don’t post on these boards to stroke my ego and try and convince people who have never heard of me that I am important as opposed to a local political gadfly/nut who also had a radio job a hundred years ago.

As for,”The News is on the Right AKA All News 590”. Mike the pizza guy had Cardinal Law doing on air commentary during drive time. He had Ray Shamie and Joe Malone advising him on how the station should cover stories and he hired local Republican Political operative/ Salsa maker Gene Hartigan as a reporter. I don’t if the dementia has started in or you didn’t listen to the station you say you worked at.

I don’t use my name in these posts for the simple reason that I am not into occupational suicide and enjoy the fact I can freely express my opinions about my employer, the broadcasting business and other broadcasters.

  16. Anti Brian,

You are a loser. I’ll give you this, if you ever want to meet so that I can tell you to your face what a loser you are call me. You clearly know where I live, and I’m in the book.

For the record, Gene Hartigan was an award winning journalist. Another thing that you probably don’t know is that although Mike’s politics were clearly right of center, his ideas never made it into the news room. You do a body count of the news directors to prove it.

Now pony up a meeting or get back under your rock.
