There is no way in hell that Republicans or conservatives (those are two distinct groups these days) want Ted Kennedy to pass away.
Not only is there nothing to be gained politically from his passing, it would actually represent a SETBACK for the GOP.
That’s because Kennedy is strongly disliked in much of the country and that has led to countless fundraising letters invoking his name that have generated untold millions for the cause.
Worse, Ted would be replaced with another Democrat, one probably extremely undeserving of the promotion.
I’d rather keep Kennedy there for another 20 years than see a truly scary individual like Bill Delahunt turn the US Senate into a Hugo Chavez fan club.

So to those of you who are already busy using Ted’s illness to attack conservatives, forget it.
NOTE: right now, Howie is talking about how Deval Patrick would not be able to pick Kennedy’s replacement, thanks to a law intended to block Mitt Romney several years back.
Howie is approaching the topic CAREFULLY to say the least.
UPDATE: I think Howie is going overboard censoring every caller who steps slightly out of line (whatever that is) on the Ted K topic. Carr’s never tried to create a “nice” persona, so why start now?
I’m not saying it’s time to lash out at the Kennedys, but I think a happy medium could be found.

I’ve been so anti-Kennedy for so long that a friend of mine calls me “Kennedy” from time to time.
For years now, my ‘homepage’ when leaving comments all over the blogosphere has been a link to a picture making fun of Kennedy. As of today, it’s something else. There’s an appropriate time for that sort of thing and its time has passed. If Kennedy’s specific diagnosis ends up being the same as my brother, he has less than a year. Good luck, Ted.

He’s allowing his callers to air all of these platitudes about Kennedy – without interruption. Ditto Jimmy Severino – one caller talked about Teddy’s “sense of morality”, and Jay didn’t utter a word. That’s when I snapped the radio off. I think the Kopechnes would beg to differ. I don’t care how long ago it happened: murder is murder.

A malignant brain tumor is something no one should have to face. I’m sure that Senator Kennedy’s loved ones are terrified of what the future holds for him and I take no joy in his current condition.

I’ve often thought the same things as you about poor Mary Jo. Like so many others, I’ve always thought he lied through his teeth about the incident that took her life. Young Ted was just as much an idiot as old Ted. But when and where does it say WE become judge and jury? Ted will have to answer for Mary Jo and all the other rotten things he’s done, but I just don’t have it in me to spew hatred when the old fart is on the ropes. There’s no doubt he’s been an embarrassment to his family, not to mention the country, but I feel right NOW just isn’t the time to bash him. We all know who and what he is. What does it say about us if we kick him to death when he’s down?
