*** UPDATED ***
Citadel’s WSKO-AM, better known as AM 790 The Score, has apparently thrown in the towel.
Today, the station fired all of its air staff in anticipation of a flip to the “True Oldies” format which is piped-in from New York. Don Imus will continue to fill the morning drive slot on 790AM.
The real bombshell here is that the The Score’s FM signal, which mirrored 790 except for airing Opie & Anthony in mornings, may well begin to simulcast sister WPRO-AM’s news-talk schedule.
Here’s the outgoing WSKO schedule:
Weekdays
OPIE & ANTHONY (99.7 FM) 6am-9am
IMUS in the Morning (790am) 6am-10am
Gresh and Zo with Andy Gresh and Scott Zolak 9am-12n
Jim Rome Show 12n-3pm
The Beat with Scott Cordischi 3pm-7pm
ESPN Radio: The Pulse with Doug Gottleib 7pm-10pm
ESPN Radio: Gamenight 10pm-1am
ESPN Radio: All Night 1am-6am
UPDATE: Boston Sports Media has its own version of the story here.
UPDATE: WPRO will in fact take over WSKO’s FM signal, and will now be called WEAN 99.7 FM. ESPN radio will fill 790′s schedule for about two days before the flip is complete.
Opie & Anthony are now homeless in Providence.
WPRO staffing changes are also possible, we’ll keep you posted.
alas poor wsko
i knew it, Horatio
a station of infinite wisdom
right up there with my bri-guy
back now, fit ‘n fantastic
huzzah!
The WPRO site says that the switch will be thrown at 5 am today (Tue 11th), with WPRO simulcasting on 99.7
I think they may still be broadcasting PawSox games on the Woonsocket station. It’s WOON 1240 AM.
By putting music on AM, you have taken radio back 40 years. I like the oldies you are playing, but this format should be on the FM frequency for better sound.
