I couldn’t bear to look at the election results, plus the fact that the Sox game is underway, but I just did, and look:

(49% of precincts reporting)
Kurt Hayes (Independent) 483 1%
Patrick Murphy (Independent) 988 2%
Jim Ogonowski (Republican) 29,105 51%
Kevin Thompson (Constitution Party) 188 0%
Nicola Tsongas (Democrat) 26,454 46%

Could this possibly hold? One can dream.

UPDATE: Sure enough, it was just a dream, but Jim still did very well, proving a Republican can be competitive in Massachusetts.

Precincts Reporting – 168 out of 195 – 86%

Frankly, I still see this as a victory for the GOP: any Republican that can come within six points of a Democrat (especially one named Tsongas) in Massachusetts has given the party renewed hope.

Thanks for running a terrific campaign, Jim, as well as providing a Republican blueprint for 2008. Polls had him down ten points, he’s done better than that on election night.

In addition, I think Jim should try again next year. The reason: dissatisfaction with the Dem-led Congress isn’t likely to subside anytime soon.

  5. Jim ran one of the classiest races the area has seen in a long time. Just a grat guy who has made his bones in Mass. world of politics. it is a great showing. He will be back there is no doubt in my mind. He made a lot of friends.

  6. Yes Brian, Jim ran a very good race, and the numbers prove it. It proves that a republican can be competetive, even in Moonbat Massachusetts! (which, seemed to be the ones on camera last night, chanting “Niki” “Niki”–LOL) In 2008 after the voters in her district, and this state, get a taste of the sorry state of affairs she will put into place—she’ll be another “one n done”. Also–Lurch will be up for reelection too—someone should go up against him as well.
    only two more days, and I am out of Massachusetts! but will remain loyal to your site!

  7. I have nothing against Tsongas (except her liberal politics), but she really was benefited by the “pity” vote. Her commercials were nothing but B.S. I predict that she will not be able follow through with even one of her campaign promises. Just another progressive nail in the coffin for America.
